Why did David Infect Holloway? Why then did David infect Holloway? He can't have known Holloway's intimacy with the infertile Shaw would create an alien creature, could he?
It's not really fair for those of us that haven't seen it yet. I think that David's curiosity is what led him to do it. He made sure that Holloway would do anything to get answers before dipping his finger in his drink. He didn't know what would happen I am totally with you on that.
It's just one of the huge leaps in faith we have to take. Weyland programmed him to do it in order to get the ball rolling in order to save his own life. Later in the film there is a clear accusation made by Shaw to "stop Weyland programming you" Maybe there won't be so many "plotholes" when you watch Prometheus more carefully. I'm trying to get to grips with the site and how it works, so sorry. Putting it in his drink was speculative at best.
Very glossily produced rubbish to be sure, but future generations will not admire it in the way that they do Alien and Bladerunner. For all that, I think the continuity isn't as bad as some have suggested. Isn't it obvious that Weyland's exhortation to David to "try harder" prompted him to consider infecting Holloway? I assume he wouldn't have had a clear idea of the consequences, but he was prepared to experiment.
And, as someone else pointed out, he did kind of clear it with Holloway first: "how far would you go? In my view, despite several 'deus ex machina', the plot had it's own integrity. It just wasn't original or very good. Dialogue and acting Theron were abysmal. The best thing by far was Fassbinder. I would have preferred to see a film with only him and the 'engineers' in it, rather than any of those ludicrous, 2-dimensional, cliched characters.

Ten key questions. Ridley Scott's return to the Alien universe has left a lot of people scratching their heads. It's up to Ben Walters to set off on an exploratory voyage into the film's great unknowns.
There are answers in there somewhere Photograph: AP. Spoilers abound, of course, and we're frankly as stumped as you - so do chip in in the comments … 1. What's going on in the prologue? That's an alien creating life on earth, right? How did the constellation get onto all those ancient cave paintings and artefacts? And why would the engineers provide a map anyway? Why would a crew of off-the-street technicians and world-renowned scientists take a years-long trip into deep space without knowing what they were getting themselves into?
Why does the black goo affect different people in different ways? Why cast year-old Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland, a man at least twice his age? Why is Weyland so cagey about revealing himself? Why did David drop the goo into Holloway's drink? How was Elizabeth running around minutes after a self-administered emergency Caesarean?
Why did the engineers change their minds and decide to destroy life on earth? Isn't it all a bit X-Files-y? Reuse this content.
